 Reserve - Engine 1

Class A FMC Pumper on a Spartan Gladiator Chassis

Reserve engines 1 and 2 are nearly identical class "A" pumpers built by the FMC Corporation. Both were built on Spartan Gladiator enclosed chassis with seating for up to 10 firefighters. Both are equipped with a Hale single stage 1,500 gallon per minute (GPM) pump and each has a 750 gallon tank. Each truck is equipped with 1,000 feet of 5" large diameter hose (LDH) supply line. Each pumper is also equipped with 2 pre-connected 1 3/4" attack lines that are 250 feet in length. Both pumpers have a pre-connected 2 1/2" attack line and a booster line. Each engine has a full compliment of hand tools, ladders and related equipment and both are powered by Cummins turbo-charged diesel engines.

Although ordered together, Reserve 1 and 2 were delivered separately over 2 different budget years. Engine 1 is quartered at the Berg Road Station and was delivered in February, 1990. It replaced a 1970 American LaFrance pumper built on an American LaFrance Pioneer chassis. Both engines are dispatched on our first due alarm response area, including mutual aid to neighboring fire districts. They are "first out" (meaning the respond as the first piece of apparatus from their respective stations) at single company fire responses such as car and brush fires.

Above: A view of the pump panel. Both E1 and E2 are equipped with "Top Mount" pump panel's, which means that the driver/operator can stand in the top center of the truck to operate the controls that move water in and out of the pump. The series of levers controls the flow of water throughout the truck.
